RARE BIRD ensemble presents LOVE AND FORGETTING - Tales from a Young Mixer.
Cocktails meet Cabaret in this nostalgic night out. This out-of-theatre event blurs boundaries between the actor and audience, and promises to stir passions, shake spirits and ignite imaginations in Canberra for ONE NIGHT ONLY. Watch as the bar comes to life through music and mixology.
Stirring passions, twisting truths and shaking spirits, LOVE & FORGETTING celebrates the performance of the cocktail bar in a toast to storytelling, community, and the art of hospitality. Weaving fragments from classic cinema, literary icons and tunes of yesteryear, with conversations with bartenders past and present, it raises a glass to the stories we tell ourselves and each other. Fact and fiction blur in an insatiable desire to dream, crafting an exquisite cocktail of memories stirred and tales shaken by a martini.
text fragments from All About Eve, Asteroid City, Birdman, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Casablanca, Cocktail, Coyote Ugly, Lost in Translation, The Great Gatsby, The Truman Show, and Fellini’s 8 1/2; and the writings of Beckett, Berger, Camus, Capote, Chekhov, Death & Company, Dante, DeGroff, Euripides, Fitzgerald, Flanagan, Grant, Homer, Kaplan, Picasso, Maloney, Sontag and Shakespeare.
